Naked, preserved, and dissected, these human forms greeted us at every turn. With fascinating eyes the word “horrifying” kept emanating from my daughter’s curious mind. As a homeschool field trip during a visit to Las Vegas to see my mother while my husband attended a conference, we took my daughter to see a Bodies exhibit and explore our human structure from the inside out. (And I bet many of you thought this was going to be about politics! Surprise!)
A visit that proved enlightening was also a bit unsettling for our daughter’s youthful sensibilities considering real cadavers and body parts were used entirely throughout the exhibit. What a fantastic homeschool field trip though!
Education Vacation
The exhibit is a meticulously curated journey through human anatomy, providing a detailed exploration of our body's inner workings. One of the exhibit’s most fascinating sections highlighted the complexity of the human circulatory system including displays of the heart’s chambers, arteries, and veins. Equally captivating were the interactive dissections of the musculoskeletal system, as well as, delving into up close comparisons of healthy versus diseased body parts.
Despite her natural curiosity, I observed a delicate balance between fascination and horror in her reactions. When confronted with the more graphic representations, such as the cross-sectional displays of organs, her initial awe gave way to a subtle, cautious trepidation. I took this as a valuable teaching moment, reassuring her that while some of the visuals might seem intense, they serve an important purpose in helping us understand the marvel that is the human body.
Surprisingly, she was most fascinated with the fetal development room. We saw various stages of fetal development and although she was saddened knowing these children did not make it to live life, she was captivated by the swift stages and significant changes a developing human experiences.
In retrospect, our visit to the Bodies exhibit was both educational and emotionally enriching. It provided an excellent opportunity to blend scientific facts with personal reflection—a core principle in our homeschooling journey. As a professional homeschool mother, I believe that exposing our children to the realities of the natural world, even when those realities are a bit daunting, fosters critical thinking and a deeper appreciation for life itself. Ultimately, my daughter’s mix of fascination and horror is a testament to her growing curiosity and resilience in the face of life’s many wonders.

Little Gems I Recommend
I love to share what works for me and my family on our health and wellness journey. May you too find what best serves you and yours. ☺️
Not to mention, I think the bodies we saw could definitely use some of these products. LOL.
How about wearing your vitamins? Enjoy the benefits of vitamin patches as nutrients absorb through your skin throughout the day. Great for kids too! There’s even one for better sleep.
At 52, I’m focused on aging gracefully. I’m so excited about this innovative new eye serum that unifies an overlooked “separation” between skin layers around the eyes, giving amazing results for wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness all at once.
Great for the whole family, check out this skin repair that is not the traditional bandage, but instead an all-natural antibacterial spray that treats minor wounds and everyday skin damage.
